Just a 30-minute drive from Grand Junction, Colorado, the Trail Through Time is a relatively short hike on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land. Trailhead and Parking
The trailhead is conveniently located right off Exit 2 on I-70, with a small, unmarked dirt parking lot on the north side. While it’s a popular spot, it doesn’t usually feel overcrowded.
Best Time to Visit
The trail is open year-round, but the best time to visit is from late spring to mid-fall. Summers can be very hot and offer little shade, so equip yourself with water, sunscreen, and perhaps a hat. Summer is also the best time to catch archaeologists at work. Fall provides cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage, making it an ideal time to visit. Winter can bring cold weather and snow but is still manageable for this short trail.

As you proceed, you’ll come across various markers and panels that provide insightful information about the Jurassic period and different fossils.
